This week's historic photo is a color image of the former Gaslighter Theatre.
In the picture, you can see the building at night with the neon sign lit up.
This image was taken shortly before the neon sign was destroyed by a later owner in 2004.
Glowing in the Night
This Campbell Theater now sits empty in the downtown.

There is just something about neon signage. To me, it reflects a time where each and every business stood apart from one another in the colors, the shapes and sizes of their neon. Some will argue that they are gaudy at best, but I think that they are a reflection of who we were at that particular time in our short histories. And they're beautiful.

Too bad someone with the History Museum couldn't have saved the sign. It was very lovely and the whole ambiance of the Gas Light Theater was lovely. Sad it is all gone.

The sign is alive and well, wrapped in a tarp in a garage in Santa Cruz
