Campbell Walks, Runs To Prevent Childhood Obesity

Day of the event registration is still available!

On Saturday, June 1 runners from all over Silicon Valley will gather to run the Prevent Obesity 5K Walk/Run.

The run, presented by the Campbell Union School District and the Child Obesity Prevention Association, begins at 9:15 a.m. at Campbell Park. Runners/walkers can still register on the day of the event, between 7 and 8:30 a.m.

The run will take place along the Los Gatos Creek Trail and aims at bringing awareness to childhood obesity, encouraging children and adults to get active and raises money for Campbell Union School District.

The previous year, the event was held in San Jose and benefited schools there.

State Assemblyman Paul Fong, who represents the cities of Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga and parts of San Jose will be at the event, offering words of encouragement.

Fong's press release states: according to the American Heart Association, one in three American children is overweight or obese. Health problems such as high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and elevated blood cholesterol levels are now being found in young children, levels that were previously seen mainly in adults.

"We all need to do our part to help reduce childhood obesity to ensure a healthy future for our children," he said.
