Campbell Drawing, Essay Contest for Students Underway

Students in kinder through 12th grade that live in Campbell can participate.

The city of Campbell and West Valley Waste Management are offering students within the Orchard City a chance to flex their creative muscles and win some prizes.

"I am honored to join West Valley Collection and Recycling and the Campbell Police Officers' Association in highlighting young talent while also encouraging culture and the arts," says Campbell Mayor Evan Low.

The name of the contest, "What's Great About America," asks students to write or draw what is great about this country. Low will be selecting the winners and their work will be displayed at City Hall.

"The purpose of the contest is to give thanks to those who have fought so hard for our freedom in this country and to demonstrate our appreciation for their service," he says.

The top drawings from kindergarten through fifth grade will receive two tickets to Gilroy Garden. There will be a total of 12 winners, two from each grade level. 

The top essays from the sixth through 12th grades will receive two tickets to Great America and a parking pass. There will be a total of 14 winners, two from each grade.

Drawing Contest Rules 

  • Drawings must be submitted on an 8.5”x11” sheet of paper.  
  • The theme is “What’s Great about America”. 
  • All Drawings must be completed and turned in by 6/7/13 at your school’s administrative office or the Campbell Police Department. 
  • On the back of the drawing you must have; 1) Your Name, 2) Parent name, 3) Phone number, 4) Home address, 5) Your School and 6) Your Grade. 

Essay Contest Rules

  • Essays should be less than 250 words. 
  • The theme is “What’s Great about America”. 
  • All Essays must be completed and turned in by 6/7/13 at your school’s administrative office or the Campbell Police Department. 
  • On the back of the drawing you must have; 1) Your Name, 2) Parent name, 3) Phone number, 4) Home address, 5) Your School and 6) Your Grade.
