Kaiser Permanente marchers raise big $ for March of Dimes

Nearly $80.000 raised for March of Dimes by KP workers

More than 300 Kaiser Permanente physicians, staff, their families and friends, marched in downtown San Jose to raise cash and support the March of Dimes efforts against newborn prematurity.  The annual Silicon Valley “March for Babies” is a three mile trek through the city, and in advance of the walk, Kaiser Permanente staff raised nearly $80,000 according to the March of Dimes.

“This was the most money raised and the largest group walkers out there in the years we’ve been supporting this important community program,” says Chris Boyd, Senior Vice President and Area Manager of the Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center.  Boyd is also the chairman of this year’s Silicon Valley March for Babies.  “We have great, generous people at Kaiser Permanente.”

His medical center and Kaiser Permanente San Jose have both been active in the March for Babies campaign. Since 1970, the March for Babies, part of the March of Dimes, has funded community programs and research to help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies.

In advance of the March for Babies, volunteer “captains” at Kaiser Permanente San Jose and Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara began organizing teams and raising sponsor donations.  One team raised more than $15,000 in donations.

“Not only are Kaiser Permanente people generous, they are dedicated to the health of the communities we serve,” said Irene Chavez, Senior Vice President and Area Manager of Kaiser Permanente San Jose.  “It’s part of Kaiser Permanente’s mission, Total Health.”
