Ultra-Lounge Denied by Planning Commish
SJ bar operator denied using Gaslighter building for new ultra-lounge
Kudos to the Campbell Planning Commission!
At their Tuesday evening meeting last week, the planning commission denied an application to open a new bar/ultra-lounge in the historic Gaslighter theater building in downtown Campbell. The application conflicted with the updated Downtown Alcohol Beverage Policy on several fronts.

I’ve highlighted in prior posts that the applicant already operates other bars in downtown San Jose, namely Myth and Sabor. These ultra-lounges have a long history of problems with the SJPD.

Now it’s a good bet that the applicant will appeal the planning commission’s decision to the city council. In fact, he openly admitted that he has already had private conversations with all council members except Mike Kotowski. Isn’t that interesting?
Let’s hope this council will apply the updated alcohol policy on appeal and not succumb to the pressure of a building owner looking to make profit at the expense of the surrounding residents and Campbell’s small town feel.
