Downtown Bar Seeks to Offer Live Music Until 2:00 a.m.

The Spot seeks live entertainment permit for DJ and live music until 2:00 am.

Head’s up residents….downtown bar, , has applied for a live entertainment permit in order to provide a DJ and live music for its patrons as follows:

  • Thursday through Saturday from 9:00–2:00 a.m.
  • Sunday from 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday from 7:00 p.m.–1:00 a.m.

Citing concerns about the proximity of the Spot to residential housing and the current downtown alcohol beverage policy, the police department is supportive of a permit, which allows for live entertainment from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. every day of the week.  Thanks PD for making a reasonable recommendation…but wait, there’s more.

The authorization of the permit is coming before the City Council this Tuesday night at 7:30 pm. Based on the comments from some of the Council members at the July 19 study session on the alcohol policy, it is likely that they will be more sympathetic to The Spot’s desire to play live music until 2:00 a.m. and ignore the PD’s recommendation.

Make sure you let your Council members know what you think of allowing The Spot to have live entertainment until 2:00 a.m. Your best bet is to show-up this Tuesday at City Hall at 7:30 p.m. and let them know in person. If you can’t make it, send a quick email to the council and interim city manager.

By the way, here’s a link to a YouTube video posted by a couple of patrons of The Spot…be careful as it includes several f-bombs. Can we expect to see more of this if The Spot gets approval for live entertainment until 2:00 a.m.?
