Margaret Schwiebert, a 15-year-old freshman at Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, won first place all around at the 2014 Junior Olympic Level 9 Western Championships, held May 3 in Boise, Idaho.

Margaret trains at West Valley Gymnastics School in Campbell.

To compete in the Junior Olympics, Margaret qualified as one of the top 12 gymnasts in her age group from California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah, to represent USA Gymnastics Region 1, one of four regions competing at the Westerns.

Scoring is based on deducting points from a starting value on four events: Vault, balance beam, uneven bars and floor exercise.

The scores from the four events are accumulated to determine the overall score.

Of the 48 competitors that qualified for this year’s Westerns, Margaret scored 9.325 on vault (1st Place), 9.325 on floor, 9.425 on beam and 9.575 (3rd Place) on floor totaling to 37.65 points (1st Place overall).
