Campbell Fights Childhood Obesity By Promoting Play

The Let's Move, Let's Play event takes place Saturday, Aug. 25 and is free.

The race is on this Saturday and everyone is invited.

Campbell Recreation is hosting its Let's Move, Let's Play event on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the .

"This is part of the city's effort, along with cities across the county, to address childhood obesity by getting up and healthy," says Campbell Recreation Director Cynthia Bojorquez. "It's also a way to showcase what we offer at the community center."

In Santa Clara County, , compared to the 24 percent state average and the 25 percent national benchmark.

The 3K walk or, the optional three-legged version, is free to participate but pre-registration is encouraged. Along with the main event, there will also be games and a variety of classes available to check out.

"We want people to see play as normal part of life," Bojorquez says. "Enjoy the community and all that we have to offer here and keep moving and have fun."

The Campbell Track is open seven days a week until 10:00 p.m. and there are low-cost programs to check out, she says.

"Obesity is on the rise," Bojorquez says. "One in three adults is obese or in danger of becoming obese. We as adults are the role models for our kids. It's important to set that tone for our children."
