West Valley College celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week during the week of November 12 – 17 with a series of exciting and informative outreach activities for students and the community. During Global Entrepreneurship Week, educators, businesspeople, and aspiring entrepreneurs engage in a worldwide forum for teaching and learning about the promising possibilities of owning and operating businesses that cross international borders.
On Tuesday, November 13, West Valley College will host the Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour for approximately 300 participants in the College’s Campus Center. This high energy day of interactive presentations, idea generation workshops, and success stories shared by young entrepreneurs kicks off the weeklong celebration at the College.
On Thursday, November 15, Sean Griffin, CEO of Startup Cup, will present a “Build a Business Workshop”to approximately fifty business students who are focused on starting their own ventures or on future entrepreneurial studies. The College will also host the Startup Cup’s culminating Awards Celebration in which finalists in the business model competition received awards for their business model entries. Contestants were coached and mentored throughout the program as they honed their business model pitches into concise two minute pitches.
College President Brad Davis stated, “We are enthusiastic about increasing community and student engagement in the entrepreneurship discipline by offering transferable certificates and academy courses to our students. By supporting Global Entrepreneurship Week and entrepreneurship education, we are helping our students to develop the skills necessary for operating successful international enterprises and for becoming good global citizens.”
West Valley College offers classes and certificates in Small Business StartUp and management and it hosts an Entrepreneurship Academy through its West Valley College Entrepreneurship Foundation. The College also conducts ongoing mentoring and entrepreneurial meetup activities. Global Entrepreneurship Week activities are supported by the California State Chancellor’s Office and funded by an SB 70 Workforce Innovation Partnership Grant. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and my…Read More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight.
I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth.
