The San Jose Water Company earlier this year proposed a 44 percent rate increase to be phased in over the next three years, starting January 1, 2013. This proposed increase, affecting all Campbell residents, is now before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for review. The League of Women Voters along with the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club, and San Jose City Councilmember Don Rocha are co-sponsoring a town hall meeting on Thursday evening, Dec. 6, 2012 at 7 p.m. at San Jose City Hall in the Council Chambers, to discuss the proposed increase. The meeting will include a presentation about the rate increase, a summary of the CPUC review, water conservation efforts and its impacts on water rates, plus information on how consumer feedback can influence the CPUC on their decision. The issues of water and water rates are complex and increasingly critical – requiring voices from consumers. It's not too late to be heard.
