Santa Clara Youth Rugby

On Sunday, January 27th, Santa Clara Youth Rugby Club (www.santaclarayouthrugby.com) will be hosting the Los Gatos Lions, Bowling Green and Palo Alto Seahawks Youth Rugby Clubs at Leland High School's all-weather fields.  Santa Clara Youth Rugby practices on Thursday evenings at Calabazas Park, and typically plays games at Butcher Park on Sundays, (depending on field conditions).

Youth Rugby is one of the fastest growing youth sports in the US with over 100,000 participants.  Participation has been growing since it was added to the list of Olympic Sports, it will appear in the 2016 Rio de Jainero Summer Olympics for the 1st time since the US won gold in 1924.  Northern California Youth Rugby is growing future Olympians.

Rugby is a contact sport that incorporates skills found in football, wrestling, basketball, and soccer.  It is a winter sport that typically runs from January-March, with an abbreviated summer "7s" season.  It is a great way to stay fit for spring sports, or get fit for the fall season in the summer.
