Why Are the Flags in Front of Campbell City Hall at Half Staff?

The recent events in Boston triggered a Presidential Decree.

Residents will notice, if they drive or walk by Civic Center Drive that the flags in front of Campbell City Hall on the Orchard City Green are flying at half staff this week.

"In honor of the victims of the Boston Marathon explosions, and in accordance with the President's decree, Campbell joins cities across the country in lowering its flags this week," says Campbell Mayor Evan Low. "As Campbell's Mayor, I also adjourned our last council meeting in memory of the victims."

President Barack Obama issued the decree on April 16.

The events in Boston hit close to home for many in the Orchard City. There were three residents registered for the race, though only two actually attended. Both Krystal Buck and Campbell Civic Improvement Commissioner Traci Mitchell finished the race and are safe.

"One of our commissioners was a participant in the marathon as well as a few other residents and we are relieved that she was unharmed," Low says.
