Viewfinder: New Park, Historic Past

Stojanovich Family Park will open in December.

This old drying shed is at the site of the future Stojanovich Family Park. It's history is rich and is a tangible reminder that once, the area now filled with apartment complexes and a fire station, was made up of fruit orchards.

Anna Stojanovich sold the parcel at 316 Union Ave. to the city of Campbell in 2007 on the condition that it be built into a park.

The Stojanovichs had owned the lot since 1934, when they grew fruit in surrounding orchards. Fruit-laden trucks would pull up to the shed that still stands on the property, the large sliding doors that now face Union Avenue would slide open, and the harvest would be unloaded.

The large drying shed on the property was once used for cutting and drying apricots, plums and cherries. The Redwood siding from the drying shed will be re-used to create historically interpretive signage
