Heavy Storm in South Bay Leaves Homes Without Power

Several power outages have been reported to PG&E.

Updated at 6:26 p.m. with estimated time of Saratoga power restoration.

According to the National Weather Service, today's weather consists of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, leaving many homes in the South Bay without power.

Some of these storms, according to the weather site could produce gusty winds and frequent lightning. The temperature will be near 57 degrees with a south wind, around 15 mph and gusts as high as 20 mph.

Below is a list of the current locations without power in the South Bay.

Los Gatos: Three outages reported at 12:59 p.m. left 156 customers without power. Estimated time power will be restored is not available.

San Jose: Four outages reported at 2:49 p.m. left four customers without power. Estimated time power will be restored is not available.

Mountain View: Two outages reported at 2:26 p.m left two customers without power. Estimated time power will be restored is not available.

Sunnyvale: Two outages reported at 12:55 p.m. left 21 customers without power. Estimated time power will be restored is not available.

Los Altos: A power outage reported at 4:11 p.m. affects one customer. Power expected to be restored at 6:30 p.m.

Saratoga: One outage reported at 2:33 p.m. leaves 85 customers without power. Estimated time power will be restored is 3:15 p.m. By 6:26 p.m. 52 customers remained without power and the estimated time of restoration is 8 p.m. By 7:26 p.m., only 10 customers remained without power.

Cupertino: One customer reporting an outage at 6:13 p.m. Time of restoration expected at 8:45 p.m.

Monte Sereno: One outage affecting 13 customers reported at 5:41 p.m.; Restoriation estimated for 8:15 p.m.

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth.
