Dishcrawl Debuts 'Strollercrawl' for Foodie Moms (and Dads!) in Campbell

The inaugural event takes place this Thursday, Dec. 13 at 1:00 p.m.

Eating out, discovering new restaurants and meals can be a little tricky when you have to factor in a stroller.

This Thursday, foodie parents will have the opportunity to take the show on the road and participate in the first Strollercrawl by Dishcrawl.com.

"I don’t feel like there’s a lot of events targeted to moms in the food world, besides potlucks," says Strollercrawl coordinator and Morgan Hill resident Christa Nielsen. "Just because we’re moms, doesn’t mean our lives ended there. I like to explore and try new foods. It's just better if I can bring my child along."

Nielsen first became involved with Dishcrawl.com in 2011 when she was seven months pregnant with her son.

"I was interested in it (Dishcrawl) but I didn't have the bandwidth at the time to get involved," she says. "Two months after he was born, I wanted to do things for my community and I launched the Dishcrawl event in Morgan Hill in October 2011."

But the events weren't family-friendly, she says.

"They take place at 7:00 p.m.," Nielsen says. "You don't want to take the kids out at that time."

When she began organizing the first event, Campbell was top of mind.

"Campbell is a good location," she says. "There are several restaurants that can fit strollers and it's very family-friendly. It’s a great place to take your kids and really thought it be a perfect place to start it."

The event takes place Dec. 13 at 1:00 p.m. and includes stops at three downtown Campbell spots for $30, sampling each restaurant's specialties and meeting the chefs or owners. Parents are welcomed to bring their children with them.

"There needs to be more events like this, where you (as a parent) know you’re welcomed and accepted," she says. "There's a set price, all the food is included and it's a fun thing to do."

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
