Fleet Week...America's Cup...Hardly Strictly Bluegrass...San Francisco Giants playoffs...San Francisco 49ers game...Italian Heritage Parade...Castro Street Fair...whew! It's all happening in San Francisco this weekend and the city could see up to an additional 1 million people visit.
So, if you’re looking to avoid traffic jams and crowds, there’s plenty to do in and around the South Bay. Here are just a few:
St. Lucy Food and Fun Fest
The annual fund-raising event to benefit St. Lucy Parish will include family entertainment, exhibit, food, games and carnival rides. Hours are 4:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at 76 Kennedy Ave., Campbell.
Food and game tickets are $5 for 10 tickets in advance, $6 at the gate. Carnival ride tickets are $15 in advance, $25 at the gate. http://www.stlucyschool.org.
San Mateo History Museum
"Honoring Steve Jobs,'' is an ongoing exhibit, but with the one-year anniversary of his death it seems a fitting time to visit. It’s a new addition to the museum's
permanent exhibit that honors the late Steve Jobs with displays featuring an
original 1988 NeXT computer, which is part of the company that Jobs founded in Redwood City when he left Apple in the 1980s for a time. A variety of other objects,

Gilroy Gardens
"Halloween Scary Boo,” Saturdays and Sundays Oct. 6 through Oct. 28, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Kid-friendly "Boo Zones'' and a Spooky Zoo, along with hay
and rock mazes, all designed with children in mind and themed for Halloween.

Shoreline Lake's New Outrigger Community Days
Free, monthly Community Days, from 10am-2pm, through the warm season (April - October) include seminars, and hands-on outrigger action on the lake. It’s a place to see and be part of a six-person outrigger crew driving a 400 pound, 45-foot long, 20-24 inch wide sleek canoe, by paddling at 64-68 strokes per minute as one powerful and gracefully precise unit. Located at 3160 N Shoreline Blvd., Mountain View.
However, if you are going to attend one of San Francisco's events, the City had this posted on its website:
“This weekend will be a great one for our City and we have the transportation system prepared,” said SFMTA Director of Transportation Ed Reiskin. “We urge anyone who will need to get around San Francisco that weekend to know their options, plan well, and leave their cars at home. We urge everyone to avoid delays by taking Muni, a bike, a taxi or a walk when getting around that week and weekend.”
Additional transit, biking and taxi options will be made available at various events, including extra bus shuttles on Market Street, a new pilot service on The Embarcadero, more buses and trains on most direct routes to and from special events, free bike valets, additional signage for cyclists and pedestrians, bike rentals are available throughout the city and 100 additional taxi will be made available with additional taxi zones at key events.
A lane of northbound The Embarcadero between Washington and Bay streets will be converted to bicycle use only on Saturday and Sunday.
