It Pays to Lose Your Lawn
The Santa Clara Valley Water District paid us to remove our lawn and save a lot of time and money. Sweet!
Though attractive, we never use our lawns. Never.
Our house came with 1,500 square feet of front and back lawns that require frequent mowing (weekly), water (3X per week), fertilizer (2X year), sprinkler maintenance, weed, pest and disease treatments, and for what? It's looks nice, but it's not "natural" and uses up far more of our time, money, and water than seems worth it.
The Santa Clara Valley Water District agrees and will pay residents 75 cents per square foot to lose our lawns. For us that adds up to $1,125.00.

Sweet!
We just finished Phase 1 by taking out the back lawns and replacing with rocks and succulents. We love the look, it's low maintenance, and we loooove the freedom from the time and expense of caring for a lawn we don't really use.

When we replace the front lawn this summer our water bill will be almost nothing and our free time will expand. Life is good.
It sure pays to lose your lawn!
PS- IMPORTANT NOTE FOR WANNA-BE LAWN LOSERS- to get paid to lose your lawn you must go through the application and approval process BEFORE tearing out your lawn!
