Worst. App. Ever.

Did you know Campbell has a travel app? Don't waste the 99 cents.

As an iPhone/iPad family we enjoy exploring new apps and recently stumbled across an iPhone app for Campbell.

When we travel we've found local apps very helpful for discovering things to do and for getting around. Most are free and all are much cheaper and more portable than a guide book.

We thought "Wow, Campbell has a travel app, let's check it out!" We invested the 99 cents only to discover what might be the worst app ever.

OK, maybe that's an exaggeration, but to have any value, an app must be either fun, informative, or useful (or a combination), and this app is none of the above.

This app is full of:

  • Mis-information (e.g. "Free wifi may be found at the King's Head Pub on Orchard City Dr. at 1st St.")
  • Inaccuracies (e.g. "Things to Do- attend the annual Prunefest!")
  • Useless Trivia (e.g. "The Vasona Light Rail extension was the subject of a minor dispute with the Federal Railroad Administration over the sounding of train horns late at night. This dispute delayed the opening of most of the extension for two months before the grand opening on October 1, 2005.")
  • and Insults! (e.g. "The next town to the south is Los Gatos. Los Gatos boasts a larger downtown area, fancier shops, and richer residents.")

Obviously this enterprising app developer is not a Campbell resident!

Digging deeper, this app simply pulls from articles about Campbell on Wikipedia.org  and Wikitravel.org which are created and edited by users (one of whom thinks that the only places to eat in town are Taco Bravo, Royal Taj, and Stacks).

That's the bad news. The good news is that we can edit these listings and save hapless travelers hours trying to find the King's Head for a WiFi connection!

"Fancier shops?" "Richer residents?" We can't wait to check out the Los Gatos app!
