Local Watering Holes, Dives and Bars

In Campbell, there's several spots that can fall under one of those designations.

What makes a place where people meet and drink together a bar? A pub? A dive? A watering hole?

There are so many designations and many are simply in the eye of the beholder, so to speak.

This week, the Metro Newspaper's Gary Singh dedicated his column to the various dive bars along Bascom Avenue, between San Jose and Los Gatos. Some are in Campbell, and are still in existence, but many, many more have long since disappeared.

What are your thoughts about these drinking establishments? And where do places like the , , , , and Coach's fall?

Don't forget Off The Hook, Coach's and the best one - The Grand Dell!

How about the Grand Dell Saloon? Always a great band on Sat + $10 bbq. Thurs is Blues Jam night, can get a steak w/ fries or orings for $10 :)

Hey Stacy, Thanks for the additions! What is it about them that makes you return? And what do you recommend at each?

Hey Kris, Thanks for bringing up this place as well! I've never been but it does sound like a perfect Saturday spot (and if it got you and Stacy to comment about it, I'll definitely check it out) and you can't go wrong with steak and fries. =)

I haven't been into Coach's since it was Winchester Lounge (I'md ating myself), so I'm not sure if it's great or not. Off the Hook is definitely DIVEY. The best thing about OTH is the outdoor patio. And here's what I wrote on Yelp about The Grand Dell: This is my absolute favorite dive bar. The regulars are down-right friendly. The bartenders are on their game. Happy Hours are so so very happy. The live blues music on Thursdays is awesome. And the buffets rock! The food is yummy, especially breakfast. Lots of parking, and conveniently located near San Tomas Expressway/17.
