"I wanted to create a place where people would come and hangout – and want to be – and really like the cupcakes," said Andrea Parks, creator of Frost Cupcake Factory. "When you go to cupcake shops there's no seating area, at least not the one's I've been to. It's take your cupcakes and go."
Parks earned a marketing degree from San Jose State University which helped her design every aspect of the business herself from her home in Campbell, where she's lived for the past 15 years. She even created the shop's logo and inspired the original artwork on the walls with the help of a close friend, a graphic artist, who brought her vision to life.
What makes Frost Cupcake Factory different Parks said is size and quality.
"I wanted bigger cupcakes," she said, "a bigger size than someone can make at home."
So, all of the shop's cupcakes come in Frost Signature Size, a two-and-a-half inch in diameter cupcake, and they also make a "mini" bite-size cupcake too.
Frost Cupcake Factory has six daily flavors:
- Chocolate Paradise
- Tahitian Vanilla
- Rose Velvet
- Black Velvet
- Mocha Java
- Vanilla Twinkie.
And each day they rotate in additional flavors which together make up a whimsical 22-flavor menu, with new creations added regularly.
"To me, personally, frosting is the best part of a cupcake," Parks said. "So I wanted to have really good frosting's and types that people aren't used to."
Some of their quirky flavors include:
- Cookies N Cream
- Coconut Mojito
- Caramel Banana
- Marshmallow Memories
- PB&J
- S'mores Please
- Maui Coconut Dream
- Burnt Almond
All of Parks' cupcakes are based on original recipes passed on from a long line of bakers in her family or were created from hours of research and testing.
"I love to bake," Parks said. "I've always loved baking. I have it in my blood."
So far, the shop's top sellers are Rose Velvet, a classic red velvet cupcake with a cream cheese frosting named after Parks' grandmother, Black Velvet, a rich chocolate cupcake with chocolate cream cheese frosting and Mocha Java, a chocolate cupcake with mocha-espresso frosting and topped with an espresso bean.
In addition to providing gourmet cupcakes to their customers in-store, Frost Cupcake Factory also caters weddings and special events for any occasion with personalized, custom designed cupcakes.
But what Parks is striving for next, she said, is to make an impact in the corporate marketplace with her cupcakes, by customizing logos for businesses looking to woo potential clients. "Nothing sweetens a business deal quite like an edible marketing tool!," their web site reads.
Frost Cupcake Factory opened in downtown Campbell July 1, across the street from . Since then, Parks said, her business has received overwhelming support from the community.
"It's amazing how nice people are," she said. "Everyone has been so sweet and friendly. I feel lucky to be in a place like this in Campbell."
