Campbell Reacts to Steve Jobs' News

Campbell reacts on Facebook and Twitter to the news of Apple CEO's resignation.

It was a big day today in the high tech world. Headlines like "iQuit" and "End of An Era" hinted to the developments happening Wednesday over at Cupertino's Apple with the resignation of Steve Jobs.

Living in the Orchard City, and Silicon Valley for that matter, everyone was affected by the news and everyone had something to say.

Here's what the virtual neighborhood was talking about.

On Facebook:

Patricia Smith Derham: Very sad to hear this, but I'm rooting for Apple and Tim Cook! They are very well prepared to move forward with Tim at the helm.

Quite honestly, as much as I would like to talk about Apple, the talk will turn in the days ahead to what the future will hold for that company. Right now, and from a position of respect – all of this is about one man – Steve Jobs.

He is an amazing, inspirational man who is stepping down for a reason. I wish him well in this next chapter of his life. He deserves a standing ovation for what he has accomplished and how he has changed our lives!

Thomas Hood: Steve Jobs is a prophet, end of story. Sad day for Silicon Valley because I feel years back Apple got rid of him, then Apple was ready to fold. He was able to forsee that the future was in smartphones and iPads. He brought Apple back from death, and most of all he created the company with Wozniack.

If you go to the mall and look around, the Apple stores are jam-packed, even on a Tuesday. He is and forever will be a Silicon Valley giant/legend. I can only hope he is not stepping down for health reasons, in my opinion it's a sad day for Apple.

God bless Steve Jobs, it's just my opinion. The best move Apple made was bringing him back. He saved Apple.

On Twitter:

dhkeller  Gonna let you all go on about Steve Jobs, but eventually I want to discuss his lack of civic involvement and never giving back. Let me know

dhkeller I just don't think you can call him 'greatest ever' or whatever without that part. Key element of leadership left unaddressed

stonecollonge It's so nice to see the #apple nuts feel all sad for the sick billionaire. What about all the sick people who cannot afford healthcare?

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
