A Taste of Belgium

Campbell's newest place to dine, BYR of Belgium celebrated its ribbon cutting ceremony March 22.

BYR of Belgium opened its doors to the public late Thursday afternoon bringing the traditional taste of Belgium to the city of Campbell.

BYR of Belgium located at 193 East Campbell Ave. is surrounded by an array of shops, including , and , all of which offer a great aura for new business.

BYR of Belgium welcomed guest from all over, including Campbell City Councilman Jason Baker and CEO Neil Collins to indulge in an array of selected menu items and one of a kind beers.

According the general manager Brittany Roberts the idea of Belgium food is foreign in this area and to many surrounding areas as well.

“You can find Thai food, Greek food, even French food, but you don’t find Belgium food anymore,” Roberts says.

BYR of Belgium offers the taste of Belgium right in your backyard with a home-style atmosphere to match.

“We wanted customers to feel like they are at home here… somewhere they can stay as long as they want,” she says.

BYR of Belgium has many different dishes from popular meatballs to traditional Belgian waffles and bread puddings.

“We use his mom’s traditional recipes to provide customers with the true Belgium experience,” she says.

According to the owner Johan Bastiaens BYR of Belgium this restaurant was three years in the making.

“When I came to the over from Belgium, I basically missed Belgian food,” he says.

When taking into account the location, Campbell without a doubt was the perfect place, Bastiaen says.

“Campbell just felt right,” he says. “The weather here is wonderful.”

Bastiaen says BYR of Belgium offers many organic items as well to cater to a wide variety of customers.

“We are very conscious of other peoples needs," Bastiaens says. " We offer organic choices and are very environmentally friendly.”

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
