2-Alarm Apartment Fire Near San Tomas Expressway

San Jose Police, San Jose Fire and Campbell Police were all at the scene Wednesday morning.

A two-alarm apartment fire Wednesday morning billowed smoke into the air near San Tomas Expressway on the San Jose-Campbell border.
San Jose Police and Fire as well as Campbell Police responded to a fire at 1405 Phelps Ave. within seven minutes of receiving the initial call for service.
When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming out from the second story apartment, San Jose Fire Dept.Spokesman Cleo Doss said.
"A guy downstairs was yelling, 'Get out! Get out!'" Said Rishav Thapa, who lives two doors down from the apartment fire.
The fire was contained to the apartment that was on fire, Doss said.
"No one was home at the time and there are no injuries to residents or fire personnel," he said.
The occupants of the apartment affected, a mother and child, will be connected to Red Cross, Doss said.
There were 14 fire units dispatched to the apartment fire, with between 35 and 45 fire personnel on scene.
