Grab and Go Kids Planner: Moms, Dogs and a Kids Night Out

Get out for Waggin' Wednesday, then let your kids have a night out (while you go out, too!), tips on keeping your kids safe in their car seats, a day to clean up and a special concert for Mother's Day are part of our kids planner this week.

Where/When: East Campbell Avenue and Winchester Boulevard, Wednesday, 7-9 p.m.

Why Go: It's always fun to take a stroll downtown with the four-legged part of your family. Downtown Campbell is a pet-friendly place, but never more so than on Wednesday nights, when the waggin' takes precedence. So come on downtown with your pooch in tow (and your kids as well), enjoy the weather and stroll and strut and (sniff around) downtown.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: , 77 Harrison Ave., Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: This is Campbells' Day to shine at picking up the trash. It's Campbell's Great American Litter Pick Up Day. So get on out there and clean up Campbell. Why not, it's the place you call home!

Pricing: Your time and energy

Where/When: , 138 Railway Ave., Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon

Why Go: Want to be sure your child is safe when you strap him or her into your family car seat? This is the event that will help you be certain you are doing everything right. Tiny Tots Baby Boutique and Safe Kids (of Santa Clara/San Mateo) will have certified technicians on hand to give you personal instruction on the proper use and installation of child safety seats.

Pricing:  Free, but reservations and a refundable deposit of $25 are required.

Where/When:  , 68 E. Campbell Ave., Saturday,: 6:30-9 p.m.

Why Go: They hang out at Art Beat. You get a night out. But your kids are the ones who will probably have the better deal. They get a night of arts and crafts, games, dinner, making friends and fun! For kids from 5 to 12.

Pricing: $30 for one child; $55 for two.

Where/When: Cavalry Church, 16330 Los Gatos Blvd., Sunday, 3 p.m.

Why Go: A musical treat for mothers and their families. Lots of terrific Pops music that mom and everyone with her will love. Listen to some Gershwin, Porter, Berlin and more! The entire 65-piece Pops will be on hand, as will someone who made a claim to fame on America's Got Talent, Jia-Yi He, international virtuoso harmonicist. And the first 350 kids at the concert will get free harmonicas. A great way to spend Mother's Day with your family.

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
