Get Out in Campbell: Fundraiser for Shea Shaw Kicks off the List

Go the fundraiser for Shea Shaw, take a look at a native garden or check out the art scene in the downtown art walk. There's also the annual race from Saratoga to Los Gatos and a meeting of vintage Volkswagen owners.

Where/When: Three Flames Restaurant, 1547 Meridian Ave., San Jose, Friday, 6:30-11:30 p.m.

Why Go: Odds are you will try to go out on a Friday night, anyway. Why not do so in a way that will help someone out? This is a fundraiser for Shea Shaw, the 15-year-old victim of a hit-and-run accident in January.  She's still in a coma. The fundraiser includes food, music, dancing an auction and a raffle. Proceeds go to help Shea's family with expenses and medical costs.

Where/When: , Native Garden, Where: 615 Campbell Technology  Parkway, Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Consider this one your kick-off garden, the one with an address close to home. There are 70 gardens in Santa Clara County to view, including one in Los Gatos. Most are at private homes, and once you sign up for the tour, you will get the information about where to go. This is a  self-guided tour of home gardens landscaped with California native plants.

Pricing: Free, but registration required at gngt.org before April 17, 3 p.m., or until the tour reaches capacity.

Where/When: 1628 W Campbell Ave., Friday, 6-9:30 p.m. 

Why Go: It's that time again, the third Friday of the month, which makes it the night for the Campbell Art Walk.  This is a "tour-on-your-own"-style art walk. But not only do you get to see the artists work, you also get a chance to meet the artists. Map and brochure available  at any participating gallery.

Where/When: 14420 Big Basin Way, Saratoga, Sunday, 9 a.m.

Why Go: It's the 34th Annual Saratoga to Los Gatos Great Race. And a great race it is and will be. It doesn't matter if you are looking to make your best time ever or just want to meander along to join the view. This 4-mile run takes you from downtown Saratoga, down Highway 9 and finishes on North Santa Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos. A Fun & Fitness Fair follows the race.

Where/When: History Park, Senter Road and Phelan Avenue, San Jose, Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: If you own a vintage Volkswagen or just like looking at them, this Sunday gathering could be the place for you. Join the Golden Gate Chapter of the Vintage Volkswagen Club of America's 27th Annual Kelley Park Spring Meet. You'll see a park full of Volkswagens for starters. And if you are an air-cooled Volkswagen owner, you'll find some kindred spirits.
