Fundraisers, Tastings and Music Top Campbell's Weekend Calendar

Eat out to support AIDS research or walk for babies; olive oil tastings, music events that offer something for everyone — you;ve got the makings of a busy weekend, one that will actually start Thursday in Campbell this week.

Where/When: , 1875 S Bascom Ave., 200 E Hamilton Ave., , 1710 W Campbell Ave, Campbell 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m, except for Mama Mia's that opens at 11:30 a.m. for this event.

Why Go:  It's always nice to go out for a good meal. It's even nice to go out for a good meal for a good cause.  These four Los Gatos restaurants are participating in Dining Out For Life 2011, donating 25 percent  of their food sales Thursday to The Health Trust AIDS Services. 

Pricing:  The cost of your meal. 

Where/When: , 232 E Campbell Ave., Thursday 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Why Go: Stop by this tasting class and learn something about olive oil. There's more than meets the eyes (or the tastebuds). You will learn about different oils and how to mix them with balsamic to make the best salad dressings and marinades. Bread dipping and you can bring your own wine to hold down the cost.  A tasty way to spend two hours.

Pricing:  $5

Where/When: , 530 E Campbell Ave. Friday, 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

Why Go:  Come to sample this "mix of flavors" from your corner music store with a "Menage a Trois" of local musicians Kori Thompson, Anthony Trayer, and Anabella Pinon.  Come out and support the music, support the program, and get some vinyl (records!)

Pricing: Free 

Where/When: Los Gatos High School 20 High School Ct, Los Gatos, Sunday, 2:30 p.m. 

Why Go: A classical music treat, and something out of the ordinary with the focus on wind instruments. Avguste Antonov is guest soloist on the piano, performing  Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2

Pricing: $5 to #20 

Where/When: 

When/Where: 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday,  , 333 Blossom Hill Rd.

Why Go: The 6.25 mile walk is a fundraiser for the March of Dimes' Walk for Babies. It's a natonwide effort and in Los Gatos walkers and runners are lining up behind this effort. Support a runner, support a walker.  The money raised will support lifesaving research, community services, education and advocacy that help babies get a healthy start.

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth.
