Animals, Family Fests and Donuts

Animals rule again on Waggin" Wednesdays plus two other events to help animals out; take a family stroll downtown on First Friday and take the kids to karaoke and donuts the next day: our suggestions for this week's Kids Planner.

Where/When: E Campbell Ave & Winchester Blvd., 95008Wednesday, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.,

Why Go:   If it's Wednesday, it must be time to wag your tail in Campbell. At least if you are a dog. That's the time that the people of Campbell show what a pet-friendly place the city is — and to show off their dogs and let their pets mix and mingle, too.  Bet your pets really look forward to Wednesdays, so go ahead and take 'em out.

Where/When: , Gilman & E. Campbell Avenues,  Friday, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. 

Why Go: First Friday is what the name implies, a family-friendly community event held the first Friday of the month. It happens rain or shine and what you will find, besides the stores and restaurants that are permanently there, is an atmosphere of conviviality and fun. There is free entertainment and your friends and neighbors will be out as well. Definitely if you live in Campbell, this is the place to be this Friday.

Where/When: , 333 Blossom Hill Road, Los Gatos; 9 a.m to 2:30 p.m, Sunday, 

Why Go:  The Nike Animal Rescue Foundation is hosting its 16th annual walk-a-thon to raise funds for the care of homeless dogs and cats in the Silicon Valley and to promote animal care education. Take a walk around Vasona Lake, see DiscDoggs perform, enjoy a BBQ lunch and don't forget the raffle. fabulous raffle! Fun for you, your children and hopefully the dogs and cats.

Pricing: $25

Where/When: San Jose History Museum,  Senter Road & Phelan Avenue, San Jose; Sunday.12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Why Go: Do you know who John Muir is and do your children? (John Muir was one of the earliest advocates of preservation of wilderness in the U.S. especially California, and the founder of the Sierra Club).  Learn about John Muir in this kid-f0cused event and see the museum's  John Muir exhibit. Enjoy nature crafts & activities. Bring the kids to hear Linda Tringali perform just for them!

Pricing: Museum admission, event is free

Where/When: , 2006 Winchester Blvd. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate National Donut Day with donuts, karaoke and lots of fun planned.  Check outPsycho Karaoke, with fearless Karaoke leader, Bruce Rogers of Korkaraoke. Then 1 p.m it's the Peter Shepherd Donut Pizza Eating contest! The contest is named in honor of last year's winner. Four contestants will compete by seeing who can eat a 14-inch donut pizza the fastest. Yes, it does sound a bit off the wall, but then again, this is Psycho Donut.
