What it Means to be a Mom

Part 1 of our month-long Mother's Day series.

Us Mom Squad Moms think motherhood is the best, most rewarding job in the world and we are so proud to be Moms.

We love watching our children grow and delight in their accomplishments. We are there to scoop them up and shower them with kisses when they get hurt, but we also know when to just let them do things on their own.

It’s our job to teach them not only how to eat, talk and walk, but also to be kind and well-mannered, to share and to have empathy for others. Moms teach children how to be little people "from scratch."

Being a Mom means something a little different to each of us, so we asked Moms at all different stages of motherhood: What does being a Mom mean to you?

Each week leading up to Mother's Day, we’ll share their responses with you:

Lesley L:

I have found this quite hard to quantify to be honest. I am not a huge romantic who thinks that being a mom has completed me or anything like that, which I have heard often but it has definitely changed my life in a way I didn’t know was possible.

Being a mom is incredibly rewarding, as I look at my daughter I can’t believe how clever and awesome she is. I know I am biased but still.

Being a mom to me means being a supporter, a cheerleader and a teacher all at once. It means always looking out for someone else before myself or my hubby, and always planning for the long term success and well-being of my daughter and our family.

Being a mom means being on call 24/7 no matter what else is going on in my life or how sick/tired I feel, and realizing that whilst frustration can be a huge part of my everyday life with my 3 year old, I wouldn’t change it at all.

It means I am lucky enough to have someone else in my life who helps teach me how to be a better person everyday, merely by being herself and trying my skills as a parent and even sometimes merely as a person everyday. Without the numerous challenges my 3 year old throws at me all the time, I wouldn’t be the person I am today, for better or worse. It has taught me to find new ways to have fun and express who I am whilst still managing to help her grow up.

Being a mom to me means being constantly challenged and finding a way to survive each day hopefully whilst having fun and teaching her about how fun the world should be for her. It is about love and always striving to be good enough for her, realising that I won’t always be good enough and yet continuing to try and showing her what love and family is all about.

We all view our roles as mothers a little differently, but there is no denying how much we love our kids and our role as their Mom!
