Two-Wheeled Good Time in the Orchard City

Cyclemania returns to downtown Campbell for its second year.

For Campbell, First Friday isn't just for grownups.

Friday will be the second-annual Cyclemania, a First Friday event catering to all ages of fans, admirers and worshipers of bicycles.

Bike clubs, bike shops and even bike pinstripers will all show off their skills and rides, but founder and organizer Jeremy Blanchard says, bring the kids.

"Basically, it’s a bicycle-themed Hot August Nights event to show off their bicycles, whether it's their 5-10K mountain bikes, to custom cruisers and BMX," says Blanchard, part owner of and founder of Cyclemania "It's not just one type of bike. And this is a family event. Little kids can bring their bicycles, too."

Blanchard says he and his wife, Melanie, are both bicycle enthusiasts and thought an event like this would be a good way to bring new people to Campbell.

"You’d be surprised about how many people are into it," Blanchard says.

People are attracted to the event from the immediate surrounding areas and as far as Sacramento.

"That’s how loyal some of these guys are with their bike clubs," he says. "And the thing that’s really neat, all these guys get along. These clubs are all made up of guys, women, children who are all into this."

The formation of the event took place just a year ago, and the two had about two weeks to set it all up and make it happen. The night was a success.

Friday's event marks the second year for Cyclemania, and this time around, the power couple had a little more than a month to plan it all.

"It was an idea that came up, and we made it happen," he says. "I like being involved. I’ve been in Campbell for 16 years and want to bring cool, hip-looking things for different events."

The night will include various bicycle organizations out showing off their bikes, bicycle shops, DJ Dirty Bro.lektros spinning live and the sale of limited edition Cyclemania! T-shirts for $15 each, designed for the second year in a row by BG Concepts. Bringing cash is advised.

"This is a family event, being close to the end of summer," Blanchard says. " Come out and enjoy a warm winter night. It’s free. No one out there is charging outrageous prices, like large festivals. Come down and support a great community in downtown Campbell.
