This Time of Year, It's Good to Get Crabby

Crab Feed season is here in Campbell. Here are a few feeds happening this month and next.

Benefits for schools, community, and did we mention bottomless crab?

It's about that time when local organizations in Campbell host their annual crab feed fundraising events.

This Saturday, Feb. 9 the Country Women's Club of Campbell and the Campbell United Methodist Church are both holding their feeds.

The Country Women's Club is on its 17th annual event, the biggest fundraising effort for the 100-year-plus service club in the Orchard City.

"This is a really important event and I'm really proud of being part of that," says Ursula Smith, Country Women's Club of Campbell member. "People just have tremendous fun."

The event takes place at the Orchard City Banquet Hall the Campbell Community Center on Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are still available, at $50 each and include bottomless crab and drinks and benefits local high schools. Call Smith at 408-377-2371 for tickets.

"We also fund both music and art competitions for the high school students," Smith says.

Along with the food, there will also be a silent auction and, according to Smith the gift baskets are "breathtakingly beautiful."

The Campbell United Methodist Church is holding its first annual Fat Saturday, all-you-can-eat crab fest on Feb. 9, 5:30 p.m. The event costs $35 for adults, $10 for children 17 and under and includes all-you-can-eat crab and pasta.

The event will also have live music by Groove yard Shift. Silent auction items, including theater tickets, local restaurant gift certificates and more benefit the ministries of the church.

Last day to purchase tickets is Wednesday, Feb. 6., between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the church. Call 408-378-3472.

Next month, the Campbell Future Farmers of America club are holding their annual crab feed.

The feast, being held on Saturday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Orchard City Banquet Hall benefits the Campbell FFA, the program that allows students to raise animals and plants and is located at Westmont High School. Randy Jones of KRTY radio will be the emcee for the evening.

Cost of tickets is $45 and can be purchased by emailing cybercooking@yahoo.com, with the subject line "Crab Feed."

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
