So There's This Squirrel ...

Campbell residents share their squirrel stories with us here and on facebook.

Yesterday, we ran our and it was about squirrels. I knew I wasn't the only one out there that had an experience with squirrels so I wasn't too surprised to see the responses I got, both on facebook and on the site.

Here are what other had to say:

  • Is it just me, or have the squirrels been going a little CRAZY lately? It seems like there's a squirrel metropolis above our homes.

  • Erin Lunsford: One time I was golfing at Blackberry Hills 9 hole course. I was on the 2nd hole eating a snickers while I walked to my ball. I pit the candy down to hit my next shot and a squirrel jumped on my bag to grab it. I walked over to shoo it away and it jumped on my leg and held on! It took a few seconds of jumping around to get it off! My buddies were rolling on the ground laughing!
  • Linda Belli Bargas: OK Erin, that one is a doozy!
i commonly have random occurrences with squirrels. like the time a squirrel got into my car one summer looking for food then literally proceeded to wipe its peanut buttered face all over my carseats. or the squirrel i saw a couple weeks ago USING THE CROSSWALK on Westmont Ave. not running.. walking.. seriously threw me off completely. so of course i waited for her :) OR the ones that use my planter to roll around in -- i finally gave them their own planter of dirt to dig in, seems to help. OR the bold black one at the farm that jumps across your path at eye level just two feet away! i don’t know what it is about them, they just seem to know they can get away with whatever they want to do around me!
  • Campbell Patch: You know, I wish I had taped what I saw that day. It was really crazy. The squirrel didn't even seem to realize that what it was doing was unnatural! It kept at it and when that didn't work, turned to me and ran up to me to see what I had to offer (a cup of hot coffee). Maybe squirrels in Campbell are bolder, smarter than the average squirrel ;)
  • Deb Rohzen: There is a spot in Monterey where you used to be able to purchase nuts to feed the squirrels while sitting on the bluff, overlooking the ocean. The squirrels (they were HUGE, from all the free food!) would come right up and take the food right out of our hands. Once they trusted the peeps, they would climb right up onto our laps and eat freely. I don't think they allow it any more in that location...
