Small Temblor Shakes the South Bay This Morning

A 3.1 magnitude earthquake shook this morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.1 struck this morning in Santa Clara County.

The quake shook an area near Alum Rock at 4:51 a.m. and had a depth of 5.5 miles, according to the USGS.

Its epicenter was about five miles east of Alum Rock and nine miles northeast of San Jose City Hall.

The 'Did You Feel It?' section of the USGS site had a total of 62 responses in 20 zip codes when this report was published. No one has reported feeling it in Campbell yet. One person said they felt the quake in Los Gatos and another reported feeling it in Mountain View.
