Pumpkins For Education

Moreland Education Foundation hosts pumpkin patch, Halloween festivities to raise money for district programs.

The warm weather couldn' stop families from coming out to Easterbrook Discovery School Sunday for the Community Pumpkin Patch and Haunted Trail sponsored by the Moreland Education Foundation.

The two-week event , which is in its ninth year, raises money for a small grant program that the Foundation offers to all schools in the Moreland School District, said Robin Strong, Secretary and Pumpkin Patch Coordinator of the Moreland Education Foundation.

The patch sells hundreds of pumpkins of all sizes, ranging from 50 cents to $20 and also features the Haunted Trail, a short trail course decorated with Halloween props and memorabilia.

According to Strong, the community event is usually operated by about 100 parent volunteers from all over the district, and hosts several activities during its run, including movie nights, tamale and Korean barbecue dinners, and bake sales.

“It’s an amazing group of community members who come together,” Strong said. “This year is a special year, every school in the district is hosting its own special event.”

The event will close on Sunday with a performance by the Moreland Jazz Band and a costume contest.
