In 2011, three of the 12 recipients were Californians. Their contributions ranged from helping veterans with mental illness, and who are homeless and disabled. Another created a music program for under-served children.

[And, this Editor has already covered one winner! A 2010 recipient, Jorge Muñoz, from Woodhaven in New York City, delivered food to hungry people in the streets of Jackson Heights, Queens! He was also a CNN Heroes finalist!]
