It's Raining Cats!

June is Adopt a Shelter Cat month.

June is Adopt a Shelter Cat month and if you’ve been thinking about adopting a cat, this is the time to do it. Many shelters and rescue organizations have an overabundance of cats and kittens at this time of year.

For the entire month of June, the Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority (SVACA) has a half price adoption special. Any cat one year or older can be adopted for $50. Adoption fees cover spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchip, license for Campbell residents and a free exam at a local veterinary clinic.

Before you bring home your new bundle of fur, the ASPCA has a few tips for welcoming a cat or kitten into your home.

Cats crave privacy, and the ASPCA recommends choosing a low-traffic room in your house that can be your cat’s safe space to get his or her bearings. Cats also do best with structure and routine, so if you can provide the same type of food and feeding schedule as well as the same brand of litter, if will help ease the transition to new surroundings.

Also, make sure your home is cat-proofed when your new addition is ready to explore the rest of the house. Put away items that the cat could chew on or swallow like toilet paper, tissues and paper towels or pens and pencils and clear away any cleaning products or toxic houseplants.

For the complete list of tips, visit the ASPCA website.

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
