HISTORY: The 1950s in Downtown Campbell

This week's impage depicts the street scape of downtown Campbell more than 50 years ago.

Editor's note: This image is actually an acrylic on canvas painting by local artist Mike Carroll.

This week's history photo offers up a look at downtown Campbell in the 1950s.

The image is of East Campbell Avenue looking west from Harrison, with several vehicles on streets and Southern Pacific railroad tracks. Oversized signage along both sides is visible and instead of the tree-lined streets, there are electric poles.

The photograph was taken in 1952.

Pretty close, Tony! Though there are trees now instead of those electric poles and none of that amazing signage still exists (except for the hidden one next to Urban Girl). Did you live here back in the day? Has anything else changed or is it pretty much the same to you?

Isn't it though, Alina! I love this weekly column because it really does give a sneak peek at what life looked like in Campbell so many years ago. Very thankful that the Campbell Historical Museum shares this with us! :)
