Here's a potpourri of pet news.

National Spay Day is Wednesday, and if your pet is not yet spayed or neutered, please take advantage of the specials offered this month.

According to the Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority (SVACA), spaying and neutering keeps your pet healthier and prevents many diseases such as uterine infections and breast cancer, reduces the chances of your pet straying and helps with many behavior problems such as spraying and marking territory.

The SVACA operates a low-cost spay and neuter clinic for Campbell residents. Cats are $25, dogs are $75, and a rabies vaccination is included. To schedule an appointment, call 408-764-0358.

The Friends of SVACA offers spay or neuter surgery vouchers to low-income Campbell residents with an annual household income of less than $50,000. For more details visit friendsofsvaca.org.

During the month of February, the Humane Society Silicon Valley offers discounted spay and neuter surgeries of $50 for dogs and $25 for cats at its Milpitas location.

Take 'Em Out

This Saturday, don’t miss the Bay Area Pet Expo at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. Admission is free, and pets are welcome, provided you can show proof of current immunizations.

Activities include a costume contest, agility demonstration and pet talent contest. Dozens of pets will be available for adoption from local rescue organizations, and there will also be free nail trimming services and discounted microchipping and vaccinations.

This week's pet of the week is Buddy, a neutered Labrador retriever mix who is about 7 years old. Buddy is a lovable pooch (isn't he sweet?) with lots of playful energy. He's looking for a forever home.
