Grab & Go Kids Planner

This Week: Kaleidoscope classes, opera at the movies, art without caffeine, keeping baby happy and healthy.

When/Where: Saturday, 11 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m., .

Why Go: In the "Scoops & Scopes Kids' Kaleidoscope Klass," children can make their own kaleidoscope, learn the history of the toy and enjoy a scoop of ice cream. In the Earthly Wonders Kaleidoscope Klass," each student will create a kaleidoscope using three different mirror systems, more than 25 different exteriors and thousands of objects to fill the liquid cell.

How Much: $15 for "Scoops & Scopes." $150 for "Earthly Wonders." Classes are limited to 8-10 students; register at 408-370-7877.  

2. INFANT CPR CLASS

When/Where: Saturday, noon-2 p.m.,

Why Go: Learn skills that will enable you to recognize basic infant emergencies such as sudden respiratory/cardiac arrest and choking, and how to respond to them. This is a non-certification class taught by Jane Folena, pediatric nurse.

How Much:  $45 per person; $60 per couple.

 3. OPERA ON FILM

When/Where: Sunday, 11 a.m., and Wednesday, 7 p.m., .

Why Go: Get a double bill of culture with Cavalleria Rusticana / Pagliacci, filmed live on stage at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy. Both operas are tales of scorned lovers and the vengeance they wreak.

How Much: $20.

4.  POSTPARTUM EXPECTATIONS FOR MOM AND BABY

 When/Where: Tuesday, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tiny Tots Baby Boutique.

Why Go: Learn about postpartum health for mom, integrating your newborn into the family, initiating breastfeeding and techniques to soothe a crying baby.

How Much: $45 per person or $60 per couple.

5. HIGH OCTANE DECAF

When/Where: Tuesday, 6 p.m., .

Why Go: Fresh off her honor as downtown's volunteer of the year, Sonya Paz unveils a new series of paintings created after the artist switched to decaf. Paz maintains that the works are "just as vibrant and bold" as those she created under the influence of caffeine.
