Grab & Go Kids Planner

Students in Campbell schools are about to go on a one-week break, but that doesn't mean that family learning has to stop.

1. TONY MELENDEZ CONCERT

Where/When: St. Lucy’s Church, Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: It's a chance for children to learn that differently abled people can adapt and excel. Melendez was born without arms and learned to play guitar with his feet.

How Much: $10. For tickets, contact Lidia at 408-394-8060 or tonyconcert@yahoo.com.

2. INFANT GROWTH AND WELLNESS CLASS

Where/When: Tiny Tots Baby Boutique, Thursday, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Why Go: Part of Tiny Tots' Mission College series, this class prepares expectant parents for the first weeks at home. Topics include discussion of postpartum health for mom, integrating your newborn into the family and initiating breastfeeding and techniques to soothe a crying baby.

How Much: $45 per person/$60 per couple. Register here or call 408-855-5160.

3. DIAPERING AND POTTY-TRAINING WORKSHOPS

Where/When: Tiny Tots Baby Boutique. Saturday, 10-11 a.m. (Diapering 101), 2-3 p.m. (potty training for newborns to age 13 months) and 3:30-4:30 p.m. (13 months and older).

Why Go: Parents whose children aren't quite ready to get off the pot can benefit from Tiny Tots' Diapering 101 workshop, taught by "parent diapering experts." Those whose tykes are ready to move on to "big boy/girl" pants can take advantage of age-specific potty-training workshops.

How Much: All workshops require a $25 deposit that's redeemable at the door.

4. DINE OUT TO HELP OUT

Where/When: Rock Bottom Brewery, all day Sunday.

Why Go: Show your kids how to help out people in their community who are struggling. The brewpub will donate 20 percent of its proceeds to Jewish Family Services' Project N.O.A.H., whose clients include families and individuals who are in crisis, lower-income families and individuals with ongoing challenges and physically or mentally disabled adults with acute challenges.

How Much: Depends on your tab.

5. CAMPBELL SHOP & DINE EXPO

Where/When: Wednesday, Feb. 23, 4-7 p.m., Villa Ragusa.

Why Go: Learn about the businesses in your community and meet local movers and shakers while discovering, via free samples, what's on the menu at Campbell's restaurants. One lucky citizen will take home an Apple iPad, a cutting-edge learning tool if there ever was one.

How Much: Free.

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
