Get Out in Campbell: Heart and Soul Singles Gathering, Leigh High Football and More

The annual three-day Cupertino Carnival begins on Friday, Leigh High football opens league play at home and more this week in the Campbell region.

Where/When: , 500 Castro St, Mountain View, CA. Sunday, 4:30 p.m. 

Why Go: A rising star in the Jazz world, Tigran Hamasyan won the Thelonius Monk International Jazz Piano Competition at age 19. With Aratta Rebirth, he pushes the envelope even more, mixing the insane with traditional. Come be transported by this exotic quintet this weekend in Mountain View.

Where/When: 1740 Winchester Blvd, Campbell, CA. Friday, 7:30 p.m. 

Why Go: The monthly singles Tantra meeting includes both guided exercises exploring loving presence and compassionate communication as well as music, dancing and mingling. This event will be gender-balanced, offering guests a chance to relax and enjoy themselves.

Where/When: Casa de Fruta, 10031 Pacheco Pass Hwy, Hollister, CA. Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why Go: Beware of pirates invading the village of Willingtown. Sir Francis Drake is looking for new crew members. Children 7 and under can meet the Queen and Captain Drake in the annual wee pirate costume contest at the Renaissance Faire in Casa de Fruta. The annual faire runs for the next three weekends.

Where/When: E Campbell and N. Central avenues, Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: Get your Sunday off to the right start by shopping for brunch (and more) at the Farmers' Market. Get outside, mingle with your neighbors and pick up some great and healthy food.

Where/When: , 10120 N de Anza Blvd, Cupertino,CA. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 5 p.m. start on Friday and 11 a.m. start on the weekend. 

Why Go: The Cupertino Carnival is a three-day festival featuring live music, entertainment, real amusement rides, jump houses/inflatables, games for kids of all ages, arts and crafts, karaoke, a wide variety of food and more. Don't miss the fall family fun this weekend!

Where/When: 5210 Leigh Ave, San Jose, CA. Friday, 7 p.m. 

Why Go: The Leigh High-San Jose football team begins Blossom Valley Athletic League "B Division" play this Friday night at home against Lincoln High. Leigh defeated Santa Teresa High 30-20 on Friday night to improve to 2-1 overall in non-league play under first year head coach Kyle Padia. Junior quarterback Gabe Davis has six touchdowns in three games for the Longhorns, including three passing scores against Santa Teresa last weekend.

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth.
