Upcoming events for you and your fur babies.

Join the Dog Scouts of America

No doubt you’ve heard of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, but Dog Scouts? The Dog Scouts of America (DSA) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1995 that helps people have more enriching lives with their dogs. The DSA provides activities that you can get out and do with your dog while promoting good manners, and has educational materials on animal behavior and training.

Like traditional scouting organizations, the DSA is organized in troops, and participants are able to earn merit badges. Once a year, the DSA holds five-day camps where members can learn new tricks with their pals while having fun. Any dog can become a Dog Scout. The only requirement is that the dog and owner be able to pass a test, proving the owner is responsible and the dog well-mannered and not aggressive toward humans and other dogs.

The Humane Society Silicon Valley will host an informational meeting about the DSA on May 26 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. For more information, contact Beth Ward at 408-262-2133 or visit the Humane Society Silicon Valley website.

Pet of the Week

This week’s pet in need of a home is Woody, an adorable Pomeranian/Pekingese mix. Four-year old Woody is just 13 pounds with a big-dog personality. He’s very playful and enjoys going on walks and chasing balls. Although he’s high energy, he’s also very well behaved and gets along with children and other dogs. He would do well in a home with other dogs.

For more information about Woody and other dogs available for adoption from Toy Breed Rescue, call his foster mother at 510-579-5850.
