Full Circle in Campbell

A group of more than a dozen 'hoopers' congregated in Campbell Tuesday night, all in the name of fun.

Music, laughter and bright colors filled the at about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The South Bay Hoopers, an organization of people from throughout Silicon Valley who enjoy "hooping" together, flocked to the green between Campbell City Hall and the to swing their hips, undulate their arms and simply get together for a good time.

Crissy Gugler, founder and organizer of the event, says weekly "hooping" get-togethers take place every Tuesday, from 7-9 p.m. The get-togethers are free and open to anyone who wants to join them, but the group doesn't do much for publicity.

"If they're interested, they'll find us," Gugler says.

The group's favorite spot is Pioneer Park in Mountain View, but it also frequents Ortega Park in Sunnyvale, Municipal Rose Garden in San Jose and the Orchard City Green in Campbell.

"It's cool people doing cool stuff," says , hooper and Campbell businessman.

The next hooping will take place at the Municipal Rose Garden in San Jose, June 1, from 7-9 p.m.

Ahh! I love this! This article was featured on Hooping.org a few days back. I love that I keep seeing Patch articles on my hooping sites. It's the best of both my worlds. I hadn't hooped since I was a child and a few months ago I discovered it on YouTube. I knew I had to try it and fell in love. Now I do it nearly every day. I probably spend about 7-10 hours a week in the hoop and I encourage everyone and anyone to try. -With love from the hoop obsessed Herndon, VA Patch LE

Leslie, Thanks for the great feedback! Can't believe the article made its way to Hooping.org, but they really are awesome for not only what they do (hooping) but their talent at getting others to enjoy what they do too! When I went and shot this, I ended up hooping too. I was embarrassed at first, since it has been more than a decade since I last hooped but it was so much fun to pick one up and do it again. Definitely keeping my eye on this group and see when I can squeeze in another hoop jam like this one ;)

Those that do it just love and enjoy it so much that we want to share it with whoever will try. I'm actually getting certified to teach hoopdance classes and my first class will be in Septemeber at the local community center. Hopefully we can have a fun little hooping community near me too (most of the nearest events to me are in DC and battling traffic to get there is a pain).
