Friday Ceremony Set for Redwood Tree With Looooong History in Campbell

Campbell Garden Club member found root of 1903-era tree at dump.

The City of Campbell's Historic Preservation Board will be hosting the unveiling and dedication ceremony of a new historic plaque which commemorates President Theodore Roosevelt's planting of a redwood tree at the southeast corner of Winchester Boulevard and Campbell Avenue in 1903.

That tree was removed in 1964, but a portion of the root and burl was saved by a member of the Campbell Garden Club, Lilyann Brannon.

She tracked it down at a city dump and had it dug up, moved and planted up at Vasona County Park.

Come see how the tree has survived, honor its heritage and the woman who saved it on Friday --  May 2 -- at 2 p.m.

The ceremony will take place at Vasona County Park Headquarters in Los Gatos.

Use the main entrance and tell staff at Kiosk that you hare here for the park headquarters plaque ceremony.
