Four Things to Do in Campbell This Weekend

Campbell is loaded with events every week. Here's our "short list" of things to check out before the weekend's over. Tell us what we missed.

The leaves are changing color, it's cooler out and the rain has begun. It's officially fall.

This weekend is jam-packed with various things to do in the Orchard City.

If we forgot any events, please let us know what, who, when and where in the comments section below.

For now, here’s our short list of fun events this weekend:

1. Monster Bash and Pumpkin Patch

The Moreland Educational Foundation's Pumpkin Patch and Haunted Trail is kicking off its Halloween festivities this Friday, Oct. 12 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. at 4835 Doyle Rd., San Jose. The Moreland Orchestra and Band will be playing, along with Prospect's Jazz Band. And on Saturday, Oct. 13 the foundation will celebrate its 10th Anniversary Monster Mash. A free ice cream social from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and a costume bash from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Come in costume and its free.

2. Boo-tique

Dance Effects in Campbell is hosting a Spooktacular Boutique sale this weekend, Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Pick up dance apparel or costumes.

3. Books for Sale

The Friends of the Campbell Library are having their monthly book sale to benefit the Campbell Library this Saturday, Oct. 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Everything is half off, so bibliophiles should find a great find no matter what their favorite genre.

4. Oktoberfest!

The festival will be held October 13 and 14 and is very family friendly. Come on down and support your local businesses! (There will be some road closures around downtown and parking will be limited because of that, so please plan accordingly.)

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
