As Charlie Sheen Says 'You Make a Choice to Win, and You Win'

Campbell resident Paria Amini didn't make the third round of the Charlie Sheen Internship contest, but is thankful for the opportunity.

It's been a surreal ride since March for this Campbell resident.

Paria Amini was selected as one of 82,000 contestants entered into the by Internships.com via Twitter. She made it into the next round, with only 250 contestants left out of that initial number, and on Monday, Amini found out she was no longer in the running to become Charlie Sheen's next assistant.

"I found out yesterday morning when I received the email that I was not one of the 50 chosen to move forward," she says. "To tell you the truth, I was actually relieved."

From here, Internships.com no longer has any involvement in the contest, and the remaining 50 contestants are handed over to "Team Sheen," where Sheen himself will select the winner, she says.

"I wouldn't really know what to expect from that point on, and I know it is for the best," Amini says. "I've always believed that if God takes something out of your hands, it's always to put something better there.

"I am so honored to have made it to the top 250, based on my qualifications and accomplishments," she says. "Being part of that 250 of those over 82,000—your chances are far less than 1 percent. I have better chances of getting into Harvard!"

At the end of the day, Amini says her goal was never to be Charlie Sheen's intern, but to share herself with the community.

"We each have our own individual story to tell, and I loved that I was given the opportunity to share that," she says. "The same morning that I received the news that I didn't make top 50, I also got the news that my work (NCIP) had helped to overturn a case where a man had been in jail for 21 years after being wrongly convicted of murder."

Maurice Caldwell has been out of jail for a couple weeks now, and Amini recently had the chance to meet him.

"It was such a moving experience," she says. "Personally, I've always believed that whatever work you do should be gratifying and positively impact the lives of others. This man's life has been completely changed. That was better news than any internship offer."
