Annual 'Meet the Brewers' Takes Place Saturday

Although Campbell Brewery won't be there, Rock Bottom and others will.

Who needs to trek all the way to San Francisco Beer Week when you can enjoy 15 breweries and six gourmet food trucks in the south bay this Saturday?

The 4th Annual Meet the Brewers event is taking place Saturday, Feb. 16 from 12 to 5:00 p.m. at Hermitage Brewing Company, 1627 S 7th St., San Jose.

"It’s a great event, one of my favorites to do," says Campbell Brewing Company Master Brewer Jim Turturici. "It's held in a production facility, a big warehouse and there's anywhere from 15 to 25 breweries and you pay a flat rate and you get to sample as many beers as you want."

Campbell Brewing Company has participated every year but due to an injury, Turturici will not be representing the local brewery in this year's event.

"It's a great event," he says. "It's a beer festival first, not some art and wine festival where there's a 'beer section.' It focuses on just the brewers and the breweries."

The Orchard City will still see some representation at the Saturday with Rock Bottom Brewery. Along with the Pruneyard's brewery, these breweries will also be participating:

  • Strike Brewing Company
  • Rabbit's Foot Meadery
  • Highwater Brewing Company
  • Faultline Brewing Company
  • Peter B's Brewpub
  • Seabright Brewing Company
  • Drakes Brewing Company
  • Los Gatos Brewing
  • Gordon Biersch
  • Rock Bottom
  • Uncommon Brewers
  • Firehouse
  • Devil's Canyon Brewing
  • El Toro Brewing Company

Tickets for Saturday's event are still available and cost. $35. To purchase, click here

There will also be a variety of Food Trucks, courtesy Moveable Feast at the Saturday event, including:

  • Oaxacan Kitchen Mobile
  • Treatbot
  • Grilled Cheese Bandits
  • MoGo BBQ
  • LoCal Comfort Truck
  • Sam's ChowderMobile

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
