2013 Holidays: When Is Valentine's Day, Easter, Etc?

Plan out your vacation days for 2013, and get ready so the major holidays don't sneak up on you.

Do you need to request your 2013 vacation days from your employer? Or maybe you just want to know when the kids have days off from school?

Here's a quick guide to when holidays fall in 2013:

Martin Luther King Day — Monday is the date your child will get a holiday in local school districts.

Super Bowl — Sunday, Feb. 3, so plan your party now.

Chinese New Year — Sunday, Feb. 10, according to about.com.

Mardi Gras — Tuesday, Feb. 12, according to mardigras.com, which says parades will start in New Orleans Jan. 19, but be suspended Jan. 28 to Feb. 5 due to the Super Bowl, which takes place, as noted, Feb. 3.

Valentines Day — is Thursday, Feb. 14. Should you celebrate on Thursday, or make a weekend of it? You decide.

Presidents' Day — Monday, Feb. 18, according to usafederalholidays.com.

Easter Sunday — March 31 for Western (Gregorian calendar) churches, and May 5 for Eastern (Julian calendar) churches, according to almanac.com, which has information on how the date is determined.

Ramadan — begins Tuesday, July 9, according to timeanddate.com.

Memorial Day — Monday, May 27, according to usafederalholidays.com.

July Fourth — falls on a Thursday, according to usafederalholidays.com, so you might want to ask for Friday off.

Labor Day — Monday, Sept. 2, according to usafederalholidays.com.

Columbus Day — falls late this year, on Monday, Oct. 14.

Veterans Day — actually falls on its true date of Nov. 11 this year, as it's a Monday

Thanksgiving — falls late this year, on Nov. 28.

Christmas Day — falls on a Wednesday. Think any work at all will get done that week?

New Years Eve -- falls on a Tuesday. Naturally, New Years Day 2014 falls on a Wednesday, with some workplaces likely to start up again Thursday and Friday.

I am impressed with CalTrans ability to do the cleanup, but the problem of homelessness does not goRead More away. Until we find a way to help these people in need, the camps will just move to another location, and everything will start all over again. The homeless need help - whether they want it or not. It's time to get that ball rolling.

Who is Tony Faber? Here is some history from a family member. My name is Karen Hunt and myRead More grandfather is and was Albert Jacob Faber. He owned and ran that bike shop up until his death in 1975. Subsequent to grandpa's death the house/building became the property of my grandmother, Lucille Faber. Upon her death, the property went to my mother, Jackie Faber-Cornick. In 1978, the business, not the building was sold to Alex Lariviere and he has conducted business since. The building was never sold and belongs to my mom, Jackie Cornick. It was her great-grandparents home back in the 1920's. We are shocked and saddened by this tremendous loss. At this time, we are trying to decide the fate of that beloved building. We are currently awaiting forensics tests, engineering and structural reports, and working with the City to keep it safe and prevent it from being vandalized and becoming a blight. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the history of Faber's Cyclery. My grandfather was a man of character and integrity. Sadly, neither of his two sons became involved in the business. With that said, anybody claiming to be a Faber or son of Albert Jacob, is just misrepresenting the truth. Thank you for sharing your story and memories! Very truly yours, Karen Hunt Great grandaughter of the owner of the Original Fabers Cyclery.
