Martin Luther King Day — Monday is the date your child will get a holiday in local school districts.
Super Bowl — Sunday, Feb. 3, so plan your party now.
Chinese New Year — Sunday, Feb. 10, according to about.com.
Mardi Gras — Tuesday, Feb. 12, according to mardigras.com, which says parades will start in New Orleans Jan. 19, but be suspended Jan. 28 to Feb. 5 due to the Super Bowl, which takes place, as noted, Feb. 3.
Valentines Day — is Thursday, Feb. 14. Should you celebrate on Thursday, or make a weekend of it? You decide.
Presidents' Day — Monday, Feb. 18, according to usafederalholidays.com.
Easter Sunday — March 31 for Western (Gregorian calendar) churches, and May 5 for Eastern (Julian calendar) churches, according to almanac.com, which has information on how the date is determined.
Ramadan — begins Tuesday, July 9, according to timeanddate.com.
Memorial Day — Monday, May 27, according to usafederalholidays.com.
July Fourth — falls on a Thursday, according to usafederalholidays.com, so you might want to ask for Friday off.
Labor Day — Monday, Sept. 2, according to usafederalholidays.com.
Columbus Day — falls late this year, on Monday, Oct. 14.
Veterans Day — actually falls on its true date of Nov. 11 this year, as it's a Monday.
Thanksgiving — falls late this year, on Nov. 28.
Christmas Day — falls on a Wednesday. Think any work at all will get done that week?
New Years Eve -- falls on a Tuesday. Naturally, New Years Day 2014 falls on a Wednesday, with some workplaces likely to start up again Thursday and Friday.
