Groundwater recharge ponds undergoing maintenance

The Santa Clara Valley Water District is conducting maintenance on the Page, Sunnyoaks and Budd groundwater recharge ponds near Sunnyoaks Avenue and Waldo Road. The ponds will be drained and dried, sediment will be removed from the bottom and sides to restore groundwater recharge capacity and sheet piles will be installed in several locations along the Page Ditch to shore up failing levee tops and roadways.

In all, the project is expected to remove 40,000 cubic yards of sediment, enough to fill 5,000 dump trucks. Sediment removal is important to sustain the recharge capability of the ponds. This helps replenish the groundwater basin and provide reliable water supply.

We expect the work to be completed in September.
