Checking Out Brown Chicken Brown Cow

Arugula.

Goat cheese.
Grass-fed beef.

What more do I need to tell you, people? This place is ah-mazing.

Saturday was the Grand Opening for one of Downtown Campbell's newest eateries, Brown Chicken Brown Cow.

Tucked behind Towne Square at the East end of town, it's a bit hard to find (unless you know where you're going.)  The glassed-in small eatery at the back of the building is surrounded with neat dining patios on either side, plenty of room for seating both indoors and out. (But why would anyone eat indoors in Campbell, I ask you? Especially not when a tree-covered, shady patio awaits...)

The menu boasts grass-fed beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, some alluring grilled cheese, a few salads and other small plates.

My husband and I ordered two burgers and an order of BCBC hand-cut chips. The Crispy Prosciutto burger involved triple creme Brie, crispy prosciutto (obviously), caramelized onions and arugula, with a horseradish dipping sauce on the side. It was, in the words of Guy Fieri, like arriving at the Grand Central Station of Flavor Town.

But then...the second burger. Blue Popeye. Blue cheese. Sauteed red onions. More arugula. I swooned. Perfect in its very simplicity. I was scraping melty blue cheese off my plate with a knife...

A separate paragraph is also warranted for the horseradish dipping sauce, which was divine on the splendidly seasoned hand-cut chips, as well as all over my burger. I almost finished it off with a spoon. Almost.

The service was as charming as the food - we originally met our server at Boogie on the Bayou (street promotion really does work) and enjoyed chatting with one of the owners, Christopher, about this new venture. He told of us his background in catering, and his love of food. He's excited about this place. So are we.

In short, we can't wait to go back.

I'd just like to know what the deal is with the name...

To tempt your taste buds, here's a few menu items I cannot wait to try....

Chicken Mushroom Swiss
Crispy shittake, arugula, creamy Swiss fondue, mayo & Dijon

Broccoli Cheddar Bacon Grilled Cheese
(The end. No description necessary.)

Buffalo Chicken Salad
Grilled chicken in tangy buffalo sauce on a bed of mixed greens. Tossed in blue cheese dressing, tomatoes, shredded carrots, celery and red onion.

Cajun Sweet Potato Fries
(What else is there to say?!)

Angry Goat Cheese Burger
BCBC Angry Goat Cheese, sauteed jalapenos, lettuce tomatoes, onion and chevre. (According to our server, if this sandwich was a person, she'd marry it.)

I don't even know what Angry Goat Cheese is. But I want some....

Have you been to BCBC? What did you think? What did you order?
