A Different Kind of 'Tasting' for Campbell

Rocket Fizz of Campbell holds its second soda tasting May 18, featuring root beer.

What's the difference between root beer, birch beer and sarsaparilla? Rocket Fizz of Campbell invites the public to find out at their first root beer tasting this Friday, May 18 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. "One comment we consistently get is that there are so many sodas in here that they don't know what they'd like," says Chris Dunn, co-owner of the soda and candy shop. "There are a lot of people that don't drink so they can't do wine or beer tastings. This is an opportunity to try something different." The shop offers 50 different varieties of root beer but the Friday tasting will include three different root beers and two sarsaparillas. The tasting costs $5 and includes a commemorative tasting glass. Rocket Fizz kicked off its first tasting with…

Kaiser Permanente and a coalition representing 100,000 employees in 28 different unions reached a new three-year contract at 3 a.m. Saturday, the health care organization and the unions announced. The deal calls for 3 percent annual pay hikes for the 76,000 affected employees in California, and 2 percent in states ranging from Hawaii to Maryland, according to announcements made by the SEIU and Kaiser officials. Kaiser operates clinics and hospitals throughout Santa Clara County, including those in nearby Santa Clara and San Jose. Fill 'er Up: Production Squeeze Causes Price Jump

The cheapest gas in Campbell can be found at both Valero for $4.13 a gallon.

You know that moment. You, like many, probably dread that moment. The one when that gas light turns on. And things aren't looking too good for gas prices in the Bay Area, even as national prices have started to take a dip. Prices in the region jumped by as much as 16 cents over the course of the week. The increase is the result of several California refiners slowing down production in order to conduct maintenance and repairs, according to a San Jose Mercury News article. Statewide, the average price per gallon was $4.19 versus the national average of $3.80. While the rising trend should only be temporary, Campbell Patch tracked down the top five cheapest gas in town to save drivers a few cents a gallon. While all Campbell prices have …

Former president Bill Clinton provided his view on economic recovery Thursday at the Outlook Conference organized by the Bay Area Council.

The only president who has balanced the U.S. federal budget since 1960 expressed cautious optimism about economic recovery in California during his speech in Silicon Valley Thursday.  "California will come roaring back," former President Bill Clinton said. "It will come back sooner if we work together." Clinton received a standing ovation when he appeared at the Outlook Conference organized by the Bay Area Council. Forum moderator George Marcus, chairman of Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services, said he first met Clinton in Cupertino in 1990, and they have been good friends since. Sushi Confidential Opening in Downtown Campbell

Owner and executive chef Randy Musterer aims at opening his doors in the very near future.

The signs read only "confidential" for weeks, piquing the interest and curiosity of all the people walking by. The former Twist Bistro has transformed into a modern sushi restaurant, complete with a sushi bar, a black bamboo wall between the two sides and oversized artwork, done by local artists Lorraine Lawson and Anthony Trayer. Sushi Confidential owner and Executive Chef Randy Musterer says that although he just moved in this January, he's had his eyes set on this location for the last three years. "Campbell was kind of my stomping grounds and I have seen it grow over the last 12 years," Musterer says. "So I knew it had to be in Campbell." Musterer grew up in San Diego and learned how to fish with his father. By the time he was a teen, …
